Need Ideas for temp control

Actually I think, too much energy is lost during the long way from the bottom to the top. The question is if there can be done something by changing the positions of the lids? It seems to be more a problem with physics.

Changing the lid position to where?

I think I'll have to increase the temp, either more lit charcoal, use less water in the water pan or use sand and only bbq using the top section.

Considering the time my post was written this was what I wanted to say
